The annual Kolache Festival takes place on the second Saturday in September on the square in downtown Caldwell. Admission is free. Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. under the polka pavilion on Fox Street and include the crowning of Mr. & Mrs. Kolache followed by the SPJST youth beseda dancers. The festival features a kolache eating contest, kolache baking championship, 5K Kolache Krunch run, and polka music. Additional attractions include quality arts and crafts and food booths, a quilt show, museums, street rods and classic car show, antique machinery and tractor show, and kids’ activity zone. The Shiner Hobo Band performs under the pavilion beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Czech & Slovak Dancers of CHS also perform. Homemade kolaches tend to sell out by 1 p.m.
