About This Event
The Jim Broyles Memorial Poker & Scrabble Run begins at 9 a.m. Nov. 7 at ReMax Edge Realty, 1103 E Main St. in Mountain View. The route passes through the Big Flat, Blanchard, Highway 56 and Sylamore areas, with sponsor stops plus hidden items and clues that can help participants at the finish. The event is open to everyone, regardless of what they drive.
Each poker hand costs $25. Drivers and passengers may buy as many hands as they want, and an extra card can be purchased at the end of the run for $10. No poker knowledge is required, and there is no age restriction.
The run ends at Spah Grill in Mountain View for lunch and awards. Custom-built trophies and cash prizes go to the best poker hand and the best Scrabble word, and corn hole and axe throwing winners also receive trophies. Door prizes will be handed out.
The event honors Jim Broyles, a contractor who built more than 300 homes in Stone County, and participants collect pieces along the route to help build a house from the ground up. Proceeds fund scholarships for young men and women entering trade fields.
