About This Event
A benefit ride raises money for Gavin Fausti and the Fausti Family. Gavin, the 4-month-old son of a U.S. veteran and Cumming Police Department officer serving as school resource officer at Horizon Christian Academy, was born with Fanconi anemia, a rare genetic disorder that has caused early pre-leukemic changes and abnormal tumor cells in his bone marrow. His only chance to stop the disease from progressing is chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant.
The family expects Gavin to remain hospitalized for at least six to eight weeks during the transplant process, then move into the Ronald McDonald House for about 100 days so his transplant team can monitor him. From the start of chemotherapy through recovery, the journey is expected to last about a year. Because the family cannot be with him until he is cleared to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, his parents will divide their time between hospital stays and home, and the family asks for thoughts and prayers.
The emotional strain, time away from work, travel and daily expenses place a financial burden on the family. The ride is planned as a fun-filled morning and afternoon for the Fausti Family. Spectators are admitted free.
