Donut Derelicts is an event celebrating hot rod culture. It originated in February 1985 when a group of enthusiasts began meeting at Adams Avenue Donuts in Huntington Beach, California. Initially, these gatherings involved discussions over coffee and donuts, covering local politics and nostalgia.
As more local street rod owners joined, the event grew in popularity. The parking lot filled with a variety of vehicles, including street rods, hot rods, and classic cars. A list was created by Jim McCain that contained over 90 names, solidifying the community under the name “Donut Derelicts.”
Participants come each Saturday to showcase their vehicles, which represent the dedication and effort of their owners. The event continues to draw enthusiasts from various regions, maintaining its status as a staple in the local automotive community.
