Electrify the Speedway

Drive Clean Colorado hosts Electrify the Speedway at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, Colorado, a free community event where attendees can test electric vehicles on the speedway grounds. The event runs Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Speedway Skills Test puts participants behind the wheel of an EV on the track alongside a professional driver to complete a prescribed course. It is not a speed or racing event. Judges score each driver at the end, and scores go onto a leaderboard with a chance to win a YETI cooler.

A Regenerative Braking Demonstration on the drag strip lets participants accelerate to 30 mph and then release the accelerator to feel regenerative braking in real time. The demonstration is educational and involves no competition. An EV Ride and Drive offers a drive around the block to experience how an EV handles on the open road.

An expo features booths covering EV ownership, charging, utility engagement and available funding, with representatives from Drive Clean Colorado, Monarca Group, Xcel Energy and Power Ahead Colorado, plus tentative participants Colorado Energy Office, United Power and a charger installer. Local EV owners will discuss their ownership experiences in Colorado.

Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license to take part in the skills test, regenerative braking demonstration and ride and drive. No advance sign-up is required for those activities; attendees sign up at the event on a first-come, first-serve basis. Eventbrite registration confirms attendance. Attendees should bring a driver’s license and a jacket, as the event is outdoors.

Food is available from the venue’s bar, and free coffee is offered while supplies last. Drive Clean Colorado co-hosts the event with Adams County, the City of Brighton, the City of Northglenn, the City of Westminster, the City of Louisville and the Town of Erie.
