ABATE of Sioux Falls hosts the Iron Butt 1000 Mile Saddle Sore Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at Pilot Mike’s Bar in Sioux Falls, S.D. Riders must complete 1,000 miles within 24 hours – not a race, but an endurance challenge testing stamina, planning and willpower.

Registration is $40, cash only, paid at the start. No pre-registration is required. Free dry camping – tent or camper, no power hookups – is available at the venue. Several suggested route options will be provided at registration, including an express western loop designed to meet Iron Butt Association documentation standards for official certification.

All finishers receive a custom ABATE of Sioux Falls 1,000-mile patch exclusive to the event, an official Certificate of Completion, and a signed witness form eligible for submission to the Iron Butt Association for international certification. The ride will be officially witnessed and certified by Tom Borchard, Chapter President of ABATE of Sioux Falls and Iron Butt Association member since 2019.

Event awards include Fastest Finisher, Fastest Female Finisher, Farthest Traveled to the Event, Oldest Rider, Youngest Rider, and the Rough Rider award – given to the finisher who completes the challenge on the most uncomfortable motorcycle, such as a rigid chopper, café racer or minibike.
