K-State Extension Shawnee County presents Create Better Health: Eating Healthy and Being Active, a free six-part cooking class series at Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library. The classes run Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on August 19, August 26, September 2, September 9, September 16, and September 23. Dietitian Sofia Diaz Buezo, RDN, LD, teaches participants cooking skills for an active, healthy lifestyle on limited resources. Each week features a tasty meal to sample, focusing on creating healthy, affordable meals with common pantry items. Topics include dietary guidelines, meal planning, nutrition facts labels, fruits and vegetables, protein and food safety, and healthy eating patterns. Sample recipes include skillet meals, fruity desserts, grain bowls, lentil walnut tacos, frittatas, and sandwiches.
