Kindred hosts its annual Barley Days celebration Aug. 8 with a full day of activities across town. The event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with the Kindred Fire Department Hero 5K at Kindred High School, followed by a fly-in breakfast and pancake feed at Kindred-Davenport Regional Airport from 8 to 10 a.m.
The annual parade begins at 10:30 a.m. on Spruce and Elm streets. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., vendors and food trucks line downtown Elm Street, with food service continuing until 5 p.m. A kids zone with free inflatables runs concurrently downtown, while the library hosts a petting zoo and face painting. City Park offers shooting activities with the Kindred Wildlife Club, playground access and pool swimming.
A car show and shine features new and classic vehicles on East Elm Street from 12:30 to 3 p.m., with attendees voting for favorites and prizes awarded to registrants. A mustache and beard contest takes place at 1 p.m. at the hospitality booth. A free bike giveaway drawing occurs at 2 p.m., with tickets distributed after the parade.
The annual beer tasting at City Park runs from 3 to 6 p.m., featuring beer, seltzers, live music and raffles. A kids pedal pull begins at 4 p.m. with registration at 3:30 p.m. FCCLA hosts bingo in the Memorial Building from 3 to 5 p.m. Downtown family activities from 4 to 6 p.m. include laser tag at 4 p.m. and a mechanical bull at 6 p.m.
The street dance begins at 7 p.m. with Post Traumatic Funk. Cover charge is $10 for ages 21 and older.
