A back-to-school community event takes place Aug. 1 in Sumter, featuring free haircuts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., free bookbag and school supply giveaways, and face painting. An authentic Mexican food truck will be on site, along with boiled peanuts, pork skins and refreshments from Friends Cafe. The event includes a car show, music from a local radio station and free treats from SweetFrog. Haircuts and SweetFrog treats are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. only. The event officially ends at 5 p.m. at 717 Broad Street.
