The Funktion Chicano Market celebrates its 2nd anniversary with “A Chicano Holiday” on August 29th at West Wind El Rancho Drive-In Movie Theater in Sparks. The event features a double feature of classic Chicano films-Boulevard Nights and Zoot Suit-along with lowriders, vendors, food trucks, live DJ, and family-friendly activities.
Boulevard Nights follows two Mexican-American brothers navigating life in East Los Angeles, praised for its authentic portrayal of barrio culture. Zoot Suit, starring James Edward Olmos, tells the story of Henry Reyna against the backdrop of the Zoot Suit Riots and World War II in 1940s Los Angeles.
The market opens at 7 p.m., with early entry at 6 p.m. for presale ticket holders. Movies begin at 8:30 p.m. Car clubs and solo cruisers are welcome. Admission is $30 per vehicle (includes all passengers) or $25 for lowriders and customs (includes all passengers). The first 100 guests to arrive receive a free birthday cupcake.
